What is York Green Festival 2007?

York Green Festival 2007 was started by John Cossham, one of York's sustainability activists, who was looking for a way to hold social events for local people and to raise money for good causes, as well as to promote local green organisations.

The Green Festival idea was inspired by many years of enjoying the York Peace Festival, last held in 2004. John hadn't heard that there was a Peace Festival planned for 2007 (there is, it's on 1st September) and thought that a summer event would be a good idea.

So it's on SUNDAY 29th JULY 2007, from 11am to 5pm, in Rowntree Park, South Bank, York.

The format will be a stage with live music, stalls from local organisations, businesses and individuals which are connected to or promote sustainable development. There is a skate/BMX/board event planned, and a children's area with play activities, and a DJ area. There may also be some sporting activities, and there have been enquiries from artists wanting to create beautiful, inspiring and interesting things. There could be a model boat event, perhaps a worm charming competition, perhaps a tree tour. What would YOU like to happen?

The stallholders to be invited will include those promoting: personal health, planetary health, local goods and services, organic agriculture, fair trade, social justice, co-operation, wholefoods, renewable energy, re-use/recycling , composting, and healing.
